Medea in space. Fragen Theatre present Anastasiya Zinovieva in this one-woman show adapted from an immortal classic.

Many years after the events of her famous story, Medea makes herself a new life post-Deus ex machina, alone with her baby son on a far-off planet in the Andromeda Galaxy. Edgy and daring, physical and frantic, hilarious and heartbreaking, Fragen continue their exploration of the human mind and inner landscapes with this sensitive portrayal of a woman in love.

Reimagining ancient myths for our chaotic and fractured times, Fragen Theatre presents Medea as you have never seen her before.

The Childless Land is a one-woman show that dives into the psychology of Greek tragedy’s most iconic woman. Many years after the crimes she may or may not have committed, Medea charts a dangerous journey across the stars and deep into her subconscious.

There she must confront her actions, her fears and regrets, all the while putting on a brave face for the entertainment of her baby son.

Belarusian actor Anastasiya Zinovieva continues her long and fruitful association with Fragen Theatre. Together, they specialise in staging uncanny, dynamic atmospheres and abstract inner landscapes that last long in the memory of audiences. Edgy and daring, physical and frantic, hilarious and heart-breaking, The Childless Land explores our moment in time through the lens of one woman. Just as our world lies on the brink of chaos, so Zinovieva lays bare the fracturing mind of a woman in crisis, a woman trapped in the echo chamber of her own thoughts, a woman searching for love, laughter and lightness in a drama swiftly closing in around her.

Fragen Theatre is an assembly for diverse artists from across the world, dedicated to asking questions, using theatre as a medium for provocation, rich in the contradictions that define the human experience. Since its debut production in 2014, murder-mystery-cannibal-thriller-dream-play Planter’s Island, Fragen Theatre has produced work that is physical and political, raw and relentless, grand in scope and optimistic in outlook, mixing contemporary issues with ancient, unusual and little-known stories. Past productions include Hell Yes I’m Tough Enough at the Park Theatre and The Hamletmaschine Workshop in Moscow, 2019; The 3SSTRS Workshops, 2018; 2016’s 5 out of 10 men, an EdFringe collaboration with theSpaceUK; and Blush of Dogs at the Tabard Theatre, London in 2015.
